TIHELI URGES STAKEHOLDERS TO BE VIGILANT ABOUT COVID-19 VACCINE

Mohales’hoek, March 20 — The information officer in the District Administrator’s office Mr. Lits’oeneng Tiheli has on Monday urged stakeholders to be vigilant when sharing information about administering vaccines during outbreaks.

He noted this when officially opening a two days workshop organized by the Ministry of Health partnering with Lesotho Red Cross and others, whereby he emphasized the importance of being precise when addressing issues which affect communities during outbreaks.

Mr. Tiheli acknowledged that the district’s recent reports about COVID-19 vaccination are encouraging and it is because the team ensured that whenever there was a campaign for other vaccinations in villages, they brought COVID-19 vaccine with them.

On the other hand when mentioning the objectives of the workshop the leader of Risk Communication and Community Engagement, RCCE, Mrs. ‘Mantsane Mafatlane articulated that the community and local leaders, ( religious, trade unions, officials, chief’s and government officials) should be included in planning for and responding to an emergencies.

She further indicated that public health leaders and communicators should guide community members to make their own decisions by providing information about the situation, risks, available resources and actions they can take.

Furthermore, all participants shared the same sentiments that the main challenge they encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic was the scarcity of resources.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health Public Relations Officer Mrs. ‘Mateboho Mosebekoa noted that RCCE is operational in all districts and the Ministry has decided to use its services beyond COVID-19.

Mrs. Mosebekoa pointed out that it is vital  to involve community representatives when disseminating information during outbreaks.

RCCE was established in 2020 by the Ministry of Health, composed of other  government Ministries, NGO’s and members of the community like traditional healers, with the purpose of communicating risks and engaging communities.
