Mohale’s Hoek, Nov. 14 — A 31 year old woman ‘Manko Willie from Qalakheng has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without an option of a fine, after being found guilty of throwing her 2 year old toddler in the toilet.
Magistrate Selebeleng Selebeleng noted that the sentencing is aimed at sending a strong message to those who might be tempted to commit a similar crime, and to instill fear in Willie to never ever repeat what she did.
When pleading for a lenient sentence, Willie informed the court that she has a 9 months old boy whom she has to take care of together with the 2 year old, noting both children would be a burden to his brother.
However, Magistrate Selebeleng asserted that it is clear that Willie came back from Eastern Cape in RSA specifically to kill the baby, adding that if the court releases her, she might go and finish off the toddler.
