Botha-Bothe — Konte Ntobo (42) of Solane in Phokojoe-Khoaba is serving a four-year prison sentence after failing to pay a fine of M10,000.00 on two charges.
On the first count, Ntobo was charged with contravening the provisions of Section 3(1) and (2)(a), read with Section 43 of the Internal Security (Arms and Ammunition) Act No. 17 of 1966, as amended by Section 8 of the Internal Security (Arms and Ammunition) Act of 1999.
The court heard that on May 17, 2025, at Solane, during a police operation aimed at recovering illegal firearms, Ntobo was found in possession of a black 9mm Parabellum pistol manufactured in Italy, loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, without a licence.
On the second count, he was charged with contravening Section 9(1)(b), read with Section 2 of the Drugs of Abuse Act No. 5 of 2008. On the same date, he was found in possession of 15 bags of dagga.
Ntobo appeared before the Botha-Bothe Magistrate’s Court on May 20, 2025, where he was granted bail of M3,000.00.
He was sentenced to a fine of M5,000.00 or two years’ imprisonment on each count, with the sentences running concurrently.
