ACCOMPLICE WITNESS TAKES STAND

Maseru, Jul 19 — A member of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Mahanyane Phusumane on Wednesday took a stand before the Magistrate Court to testify as an accomplice witness in a case in which some army members are accused of attempted murder of Former Editor of the Lesotho Times and Sunday Express newspapers Lloyd Mutunga.

The witness was reminded by the Court through Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Murenzi that he is testifying as the accomplice witness. He was warned that although he is a state witness, he is formally a defendant in the matter. He was further warned that in terms of the laws governing accomplice witnesses, there are some questions that he is required to answer which might implicate him in the matter. It was added that he is required to do so to the satisfaction of the court and if he does not, he might be charged and prosecuted.

Phusumane had initially taken the stand on July 25, 2022, and was introduced as the accomplice witness. . .
