ASAFG MEETS IN LESOTHO

Maseru, Oct.14 — The African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) Southern Africa Focal Group known as ASAFG, is currently convening its second meeting of the year, hosted by Road Fund Lesotho in Maseru on Tuesday.

This gathering brings together key stakeholders from the road maintenance sector across the Southern African region to discuss critical issues and strategies for enhancing road infrastructure. The meeting started on Tuesday and will end on Thursday.

In his keynote address ASAFG Chairperson Mr. Stewart Malata said as ASAFG their role is to ensure road financing mechanisms remain efficient, relevant and sustainable.

He said this three day meeting reflects shared determination to adapt to technological, environmental challenges currently facing the region.

He said it also reflects on how far they have come and impacts of the Funds and envision the future where innovation, good governance and sustainability will drive sustainable infrastructure financing.

He expressed gratitude to the government of Lesotho and Road Fund Lesotho for hosting them with warmth and generosity.

On the other hand, Road Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mrs. ‘Mats’epang Sekhokoane said roads are economic corridors, lifelines of health and education.

She said trade and mobility are built on roads hence they have to be sustainably maintained. 

“Building roads is easy but maintaining them sustainably is a challenge hence we are here to dwell on best mechanisms and exchange ideas”, she said. . . .
