Maseru, Oct. 06 — Even though public holidays are perceived to create an opportunity to celebrate, reflect and rest, vendors say the current economic downturn forces them to get their businesses going.
This, they said in an interview with the Agency on Monday, as the country continues to celebrate 59th Independence which was officially observed through tree planting last Saturday in three regions of the country.
Speaking with one Mr. Qhasho Selepe said gone are the days when they used to close their businesses on public holidays, stressing the increasing cost of living coupled with high rate of unemployment do not permit.
He also disclosed that the money he would collect by the end of business on Monday would make a difference, wishing the nation a happy independence.
Sharing the same sentiments, one of the local Economists Mr. Majakathata Thakhisi Mokoena said in the economic site, public holidays somehow benefit the business community especially vendors as most people have time to buy products during the day when they are not at work…
