Maseru, Dec. 05 — Principal Chief of Ha ‘Mamathe Chief Sempe Gabasheane Masupha says chiefdom is an independent institution that should have its own budget in the country.
Speaking at the introduction to the Protected Areas Expansion Plan for the Highlands of Lesotho stakeholders’ engagement workshop held at Thaba Bosiu on Tuesday, Chief Masupha said despite chiefs being under the Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, it is an independent institution.
He said if given its own budget, under the College of Chiefs, this institution could be able to run its own affairs smoothly including acting as mediators during political disturbances in the country and elsewhere.
