Berea, Aug. 23 — The Internet Society Lesotho Chapter (ISLC) said child online protection is a shared responsibility involving various stakeholders united to ensure children’s safety and their wellbeing in the digital environment.
ISLC Secretary General Ms. Mamoqenehelo Morolong made the remarks during the training of District Child Protection Team (DCPT) Berea regarding the Child Online Protection (COP) staged at District Administrators (DA) boardroom on Thursday.
Ms. Morolong stressed that the world is already in the technological world and we need to accept that, citing that if a few hours of internet outage can pass; one feels like it is the end of life, adding that children feel the same way and that implies the significance of the internet in our lives.
She said although the internet is a good platform where to access information, however it is more like a deadly public space where everything can be disposed on and it is even more dangerous to children because they encounter cyber risks of which end up manifesting in their lives, therefore parents need to block or filter websites which have harmful content.
