CHILDREN SPEAK ON MOSHOESHOE’S DAY,  TWO HUNDRED YEARS

Maseru, March 11 — Children from different schools and villagers that showed up for commemoration of Moshoeshoe’s day main event held at Thaba Bosiu on Monday.

In an interview with the Agency, these children expressed gratitude over a variety of traditional plays showcased including the mentioning of 200 years of the Basotho existence.

One of the children,  Tlelima Moroke of Tlametlu primary school Ha Mants’ebo said he is doing grade 7 and has heard people  at this event talking about 200 years but have not been taught about it in the classroom level. He added that they as children also want to learn about these things.

“I am happy that today as we come together, in front of our eyes there is King Letsie lll and Queen ‘Masenate, Prime Minister and many other Senior people in the country,” Ts’epang Rapakeng of Ha Motemekoane added 

This, according to her, gives them knowledge and a sense of belonging about issues of the country.

Meanwhile, the community of Majakaneng where the event was held at Thaba Bosiu was also present, thus contributing by performing different plays.

In conclusion, one of the aged, Mr. Mothusi Mothusi of Thaba Bosiu said the need for children to be educated thoroughly on issues of the late King as well as issues surrounding 200 years  is vital so that they can fall in love with Basotho cultural norms and values.

History has shown that among others, the father of the nation, Morena Moshoeshoe 1 was known for his servanthood strategy,  where he adopted orphaned children giving them refugee.
