Maseru, Dec. 15 — Some members of the Senate have expressed gratitude over the Lerotholi Polytechnic (LP) Chancellorship position acquired by Prince Lerotholi Mohato Seeiso.
Those interviewed by the Agency have said having Prince at the age of 18 years becoming the first LP Chancellor in the 120 years of the institution’s existence marks continuity as far as Chieftainship legacy is concerned.
Speaking with the Agency, the Principal Chief of Tebang, Sentle Mojela who was sworn-in at age 28 a year ago, taking from his father due to other macro external factors reiterated it is more pleasing when youth protect the legacy of Chieftainship in their own country.
He stipulated that through Chiefs, Basotho identity, culture as well as local governance all signalling unity and authority are upheld.
Therefore, he congratulated Prince Lerotholi for becoming the youngest Chancellor of a higher education institution in Lesotho and probably in Africa and of course the whole world, thus affirming his support.
In Sesotho he stipulated there is a saying ‘thebe e seelloa holima e ngoe,’ meaning with support of their elders, with their skills and knowledge coupled with the one they are bringing as growing leaders, Lesotho is in the right hands and will surely not fall.
Sharing similar sentiments, Senator Thato Mohale indicated that in as far as history is concerned, Chieftainship remains the cornerstone of development and of the country’s investment.
“This position comes at an opportune time when LP is faced with a number of challenges, requiring a mind such as that of Lerotholi to reshape the institution.”
Senator Mohale is adamant that Lerotholi is the right Ambassador, an image needed to uplift and uphold the vision that the late Chief Lerotholi, founder of the institution had in mind when he formed LP.
Prince Lerotholi ‘Tholo’ is named after the Paramount Chief Lerotholi of Basotho who formed LP, reigned from 1891 to 1905, thus the new Chancellor is reported to mark security in the line of succession in the Royal Family is guaranteed in this way continuity and legacy enhancement.
