CONDUCT OF LAW SOCIETY COUNCIL QUESTIONED

Maseru, Aug.01—-Advocate Napo Mafaesa has in his affidavit formed part of an urgent application filed before the High Court by some lawyers against the Law Society of Lesotho, questioning the conduct of the current Council of the society.

He stated that the Council has developed a habit of installing itself into power in a manner not countenanced by the law. He added that they have failed to account for the lawyers’ monies. He further added that they authorised risky investments of the monies from Fidelity Fund in violation of the democratic values of transparency, openness, responsiveness, and accountability.

Adv. Mafaesa emphasised that what they have done defeats the purpose for which the Fidelity Fund was established, which is to provide financial security to the public, not to become a pool for entertaining legal practitioners…
