Maseru, Dec. 11 — The High Court through Justice Maliepollo Makhetha has on Wednesday ordered that one of the accused in the ongoing treason trial, Litekanyo Nyakane be taken to Makoanyane Military Hospital.
The order was made after the legal team in this matter together with two officials from the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) and Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) met with the presiding judge concerning a complaint raised by the accused regarding his health issues.
The accused had on Tuesday, through his lawyer, told the court that he has not been able to access medical services for a month at Makoanyane Military Hospital where he is usually taken for his regular physiotherapy sessions. He stated that he was experiencing discomfort and pain on his affected leg adding that he will not be able to concentrate if the case would proceed.
The presiding judge indicated that an inquiry conducted in the chambers revealed that there is no major challenge between the two institutions but working relations which need to be repaired. She remarked that as they do their job, the institutions should respect the rights of accused based on the Constitution and international conventions. She directed the LDF and LCS to have a meeting and find a lasting solution.
