Maseru, Jan.04 — The High Court sitting as the Constitutional Court has on Tuesday dismissed with costs an application in which United For Change (UFC) was challenging a decision of the Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Speaker had in February last year determined that a conduct by Mr. Mohlominyane Tota, a Member of Parliament for UFC when he changed seats in the National Assembly, did not constitute floor-crossing.
The determination by the Speaker was made after Mr. Tota wrote a letter to the Speaker stating his intention to move from the seat he was allocated when sworn-in as an MP. It was stated that in the letter he indicated that he wanted to move to the seat where he would be comfortable to perform his duties as the MP.
It was further stated that the UFC had mandated him to sit where he would be able to support the government but he violated that mandate by choosing to support the opposition. . .
