CRIME PREVENTION COMMITTEES TO MEET IN BERGVILLE

Mokhotlong, May 05 — Crime Prevention Committees from Mokhotlong will hold a meeting with their counterparts in Bergville, a small farming town in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province, South Africa on Friday this week.

Senior Superintendent Leabua Shale of Mokhotlong Police Station said the purpose of their meeting is to review progress made since they last met regarding their plan of action to fight against stock theft in Lesotho and South Africa.

He mentioned also that issues related to illegal crossings of livestock and how it can be curbed will be discussed in order to protect livestock diseases which usually occur as a result of illegal crossings from one country to another.

He said stocktheft is still a major concern in the district, hence the need for the crime prevention committees in both countries to collaborate and join police efforts in reducing the crime.

Senior Superintendent Shale explained that besides the crime prevention committees meetings, the police from both countries have bilateral meetings where they discuss cross border related issues while also organizing simultaneous operations to fight cross border crime.

This will be the second meeting of the Crime Prevention Committees to be held in Bergville, KZN.
