DDMT REVIEWS DISASTER RISK REDUCTION POLICY

Maseru, Nov. 17 — Maseru District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) held a meeting in Maseru on Monday to review the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) policy, which was enacted in 2011.

While reviewing the key performance areas of the policy, Mr. Hlomehang Matjopile from the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) mentioned that they include identification and assessment, education and knowledge management, risk reduction and development, and disaster preparedness and emergency response.

DDMT members highlighted that the challenges they faced include lack of resources, dependency, up-to-date preparedness plan coordination and governance and general messages that are not specific to individuals or small groups.

On the other hand, DDMT members mentioned that they succeeded in preparedness measures where there was food verification training for milling companies, a school garden campaign and awareness to enhance production and the school feeding diet, as well as reviewing and developing food and nutrition strategies.
