FOOD, NUTRITION COORDINATING OFFICERS ON PEER REVIEW

Berea, Dec. 03 — District Food and Nutrition Coordinating Officers (DFNCO) from all corners of the country are currently engaged in a three days’ workshop in Berea aimed to review their work and to map way forward after conducting the nationwide nutrition launches at their respective districts.

This follows some recently conducted campaigns whereby Food and Nutrition Coordinating Office (FNCO) in partnership with the District Nutrition Teams led the district’s nutrition launches, whereby the carrot mascot decorated with seven colours was used to raise awareness about healthy eating habits.

When reflecting on the nationwide nutritional launches, FNCO Public Relations Officer (PRO) Ms. Nthabeleng Sefako said they are overwhelmed that both the national and districts nutrition launch campaigns have received the positive reception, citing that the carrot mascot has influenced a new knowledge, change of attitudes and social norms among individuals and communities when it comes to food.

Ms. Sefako said sometimes back, it was a common practice to encourage people to eat three groups of foods as a balanced diet, but recently studies have revealed that people should eat at least seven colors at all times in order to promote a healthy life.
