Maseru, Aug.16 — International Women Peace Group (IWPG) Lesotho has strongly reminded members that the Plant Peace Project is about commemoration of events like Africa Women’s Month (August).
In an interview, IWPG Lesotho Chairperson Mrs. ‘Malejaka Letooane said as they celebrate with South Africa and the continent in small and big ways, they should know that this is also part of the peace journey Lesotho is taking with IWPG.
She said the significance of the South African women’s march on August 09, 1956 highlights the vital leadership, rich legacies and ongoing achievements of women. She said it also continues to inspire the nation’s commitment to advancing women’s rights.
Again, she indicated that the stereotype of women as politically inept and immature, tied to the house was outdated and inaccurate.
Mrs. Letooane stated that IWPG was founded as a responsible woman to protect noble lives from war and to pass on a world of peace to future generations.
She said as women they have a special ability to conceive and nurture life therefore it makes them recognize the dignity of life and make them feel love and responsibility.
“Just as the seed of life is a miraculous space newly created for the dignified humans, if all women in Lesotho and around the world unite to become the mother of peace, the miracle of sustainable peace will become a reality.
“With a motherly heart, we will work with women across Lesotho from personal activities to institutional activities for peace realization. The night is dark but because of the moon, it is not always dark. Let each of us become a messenger of peace, end war and pass on a world of true peace as a legacy to future generations,” she emphasised.
Meanwhile the IWPG Plant Peace Project is a global initiative aimed at spreading peace through community-driven social impact and environmental sustainability. It focuses on empowering rural communities and smallholder farmers in conflict and post-conflict territories to achieve food security and sustainable economic development.
The project creates stability by enabling communities to become self-sufficient through sustainable agriculture and trade. It also emphasizes the importance of women as global peacemakers and nurturers of future generations.
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Lesotho Chapter was officially established in January 2018, operating as an active local branch of the global organization.
The group focuses on women’s empowerment, organizing events like youth peace art competitions and workshops dedicated to maternal instincts and peace advocacy.
