Maseru, June 12 — As part of paying tribute to the late Retired Justice Kelello Mafoso-Guni, the first female judge in Lesotho, the judiciary held a memorial service at the High Court premises on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane stated that performance of the late Guni on the bench is a matter of record. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and friends.
Also speaking at the same event on behalf of the Law Society of Lesotho, Advocate Leaba Thetsane stated that the demise of the late Guni sent shockwaves to the legal fraternity and the entire bench as she was not known to take ill. He pointed out that not so long ago, there was a similar gathering in memory of the late Justice Hopolang Nathane adding that they also remembered the late Justices Lebohang Molete, Lisebo Chaka-Makhoane and Thamsanqa Nomngcongo whom the judiciary has lost through death.
He described the late Guni as a devoted Catholic and a brilliant person adding that she was endowed with knowledge. He pointed out that she worked cordially with others while she was a lawyer and while still on the bench. He emphasized that although she retired, she remained a judge adding that she is lucky to have reached 79 years.
