Maseru, Oct. 25 — A case in which four members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) are charged with the murder of Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng has been scheduled to proceed on various days in January, March, April, May and June 2025.
The dates were set after the case recently failed to proceed on several occasions due non -payment of pro deo fees for defence lawyers. The case has also been affected by shortage of funds for processing of subpoenas.
The court has in this case already held a trial within trial after the defence challenged a testimony by one of the witnesses Inspector Rapelang Nkeane. The witness had stated that the accused voluntarily showed them a place where they dumped the body of the deceased.
The trial within trial was intended to assist the court to establish admissibility of evidence presented by the prosecution against the accused.
