Qacha’s Nek, Aug. 10 — A Ha Ramoroke man, Mr. Sabelo K’hohliso who repeatedly raped a minor girl has been slapped with 10 years jail sentence with no fine.
The 26 year-old was charged with contravention of Section 46 (1) of Penal Code Act no. 6 of 2010.
The Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court through Resident Magistrate ‘Mampho Mokoena heard that on October 21, 2022 the accused sexually assaulted and abducted a 15 year-old with an intention to marry.
Child marriage is common in rural areas and despite efforts by stakeholders to end it, the problem still persists because of contradicting laws, harmful cultural norms and practices, poverty and teenage pregnancies.
