Maseru, March 11 — The Head of State, King Letsie lll unveiled and launched a 60 years diamond logo ahead of Lesotho’s independence at Thaba Bosiu on Wednesday.
The unveiling became top of the agenda at the remembrance gathering, Moshoeshoe’s day at Thaba Bosiu happening just two years after the bicentennial.
The logo comprising national flag colours of blue, green and white marks the start of jubilee independence festivities with the objective to celebrate the 60 years milestone.
Delivering keynote address, the King said this is the time to be in deep prayers, recalling how the late father of the nation aspired for unity, peace and stability to prevail in the Mountain Kingdom.
He thanked Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) for leading with prayer at this special service, urging the nation to go back and promote love in their different communities.
Similarly, the Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane reiterated that the day is about remembering the late Morena Moshoeshoe and unveiling 60 years logo since Lesotho gained independence from the British.
“We are proud to be amongst the four countries being led by the Monarch, something worth celebrating,” he said.
He called the nation to introspect, look back on the values of Morena Moshoeshoe who opted for wisdom to maintain peace, noting when there is peace the economy will grow.
On behalf of the Principal Chief of Thaba Bosiu, Chief Leloko Mohalenyane welcomed all, stating the importance of the gathering in showcasing the spirit of Morena Moshoeshoe in building solidarity.
Moreover, the Government Secretary (GS), Mrs. Teboho ‘Mokela announced amongst others the presence of an international journalist as the King’s guest known as Peter Greenberg who will help in compiling Lesotho documentary through support of LTDC.
The event saw Basotho from different spheres entertaining the crowd with different plays and music.
The service commenced with prayer led by Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) where Reverend Seliakhotla Kobuoe highlighted the importance of unity within Basotho citizens.
Lesotho gained her independence from the British in 1966.
Morena Moshoeshoe l was born in Menkhoaneng in 1786, he was initiated and given the name Letlama the binder in 1804.
He died on March 11, 1870 and is said to have been the wise leader who unified Basotho inspite of their different clans.
