Maseru, Feb. 28 — King Letsie III presented awards to 11 Royal Lesotho Lifesaving Association (RLLA) and 41 Prince Mohato Award Programme students respectively at the event held in Maseru on Wednesday.
The Prince Mohato Award was in three levels, namely Bronze, Silver and Gold while those from the Royal Lesotho Life Saving included Bronze, Cross, Silver Cross and Lifesaver of the year.
Speaking at the event, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training Mr. Rats’iu Majara said the recipients underwent intensive training for months and were equipped with skills that will enable them to face life challenges and influence whatever they come across.
He also expressed pride over the achievements of recipients, appleang to them to represent the country well by utilising their skills and turn the country into the city on the hill.
One of the recipients from RLLA who won an award for lifesaver of the year Mr. Rethabile Majalle expressed appreciation over the award, saying he still has a long way to go in saving lives of the people.
He said the award will motivate them to keep on saving lives of people, saying they have rescued a number of people in rivers and dams.
He therefore urged parents to permit their children to undergo swimming lessons due to climate change to avoid incidents where they drown in water while trying to swim.
On the other hand, Liteboho Moeketsi from Prince Mohato Award said they are trained to be best citizens and are motivated to work hard in their studies as well as to achieve their goals.
She said they are also assisted to be independent, be heard and recognised, expressing gratitude for the award.
Meanwhile the Prince Mohato Award Programme of which the King is its Partron is a programme that provides various activities aimed at developing lives, acquiring leadership skills and instilling responsibility.
It is open to all persons regardless of gender, culture, religious, political affiliation, mental or physical disability.
