Maseru, April 21 — Despite positioning itself as a hub for technology and digital innovation, the ongoing Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Council Meeting has also created a vibrant marketplace for local traders seeking income opportunities.
Speaking in an interview, Mrs. ’Makauli Litabe, a handicraft vendor exhibiting at the event, said business has been promising.
She noted that she has already managed to sell several Basotho hats within just the morning hours, highlighting the strong interest from both local and international delegates.
She mentioned that the presence of visitors from different countries has significantly boosted her sales, as many are eager to purchase locally made products as souvenirs.
According to Mrs. Litabe, such events not only promote digital discussions but also open doors for small businesses to showcase their work to a wider audience.
She further expressed optimism that continued hosting of international conferences in Lesotho will help sustain income for local entrepreneurs, especially those in the creative and cultural industries.
Other vendors at the venue shared similar sentiments, indicating that the increased foot traffic has translated into meaningful sales and exposure for their products.
The CTO Council Meeting, while primarily focused on advancing digital transformation and connectivity, is proving to have a broader economic impact by supporting grassroots businesses and promoting local craftsmanship.
