Berea, Aug. 17 — A festive atmosphere filled the Mapoteng Primary School grounds on Sunday as community members gathered for the annual KL Soccer Tournament hosted by KL Construction founder, Mr. Karabo Letele.
The tournament, held annually during the winter season around Letele’s birthday, featured eight male teams competing for cash prizes, while local artists entertained spectators.
The event attracted a large turnout, with community members coming to support the participating teams and enjoy the performances.
Letele, who is the founder of Mapoteng-based KL Construction, said hosting the tournament was his way of giving back to the community and creating opportunities for young people to come together through sport.
He said the winter tournament is one of two sporting events he hosts each year, with another held in December.
Unlike the winter edition, the December tournament accommodates both men and women and includes football, volleyball and netball.
Letele said the tournaments are intended to promote sport, encourage young people to engage in constructive activities and keep away from crime.
He said bringing young people together through sport helps promote unity and creates a positive environment where they can interact and build relationships.
Eight teams contested this year’s winter tournament, competing for cash prizes of M5,000, M2,500, M1,250 and M625 for first, second, third and fourth places respectively.
The tournament combined competitive football with music and entertainment, turning it into a broader community gathering.
For Letele, the annual event has become a way of celebrating his birthday while giving back to the community and using sport to promote youth engagement and unity.
