Maseru, July 27 — Lesotho sprinter Mojela Koneshe has delivered a stellar performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by winning his men’s 100m heat at Scotstoun Stadium and setting a new national record of 10.07 seconds (+1.4 wind reading).
Improved significantly from his previous appearance at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games where he ran 10.46 seconds in the round 1 heats.
He won his heat convincingly, beating Keny’s Mark Otieno (10.38) and securing qualification for the next round.
Mojela Koneshe is among over 3,000 athletes from 74 nation and territories participating in 10 sports and six fully integrated para-sports, including athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, 3×3 basketball and weightlifting.
Meanwhile the 2026 Commonwealth Games officially known as the XXIII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2026 is an ongoing multi-sport event being held from July 23 to August 02 in Glasgow, Scotland for members of the Commonwealth Nations. This is the fourth Commonwealth Games to be hosted in Scotland following the 1970and 1986 games in Edinburgh and the 2014 Games in Glasgow.
The 2026 Games is the first to be held since the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of King Charles III as the Head of the Commonwealth and the first edition since Donald Rukare became President of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
