Maseru, Mar.20- The Lesotho Agricultural College (LAC) today hosted a vibrant Cultural Day at its campus in commemoration of King Moshoeshoe I, with notable media personalities in attendance.
The event was graced by Nomaswati Letšolo of Lesotho Television and Radio Lesotho, alongside Maletuka Taunyane, among other guests.
A Cultural Day is an event commonly held in schools and communities to celebrate and showcase traditions, attire, food, music, language and values of different cultures. Such events promote understanding, inclusion and respect for diversity, while providing an opportunity for participants to share their heritage.
Speaking during the event, Letšolo emphasised the importance of preserving Basotho culture both locally and abroad.
She said Basotho should honour the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I by embracing peace and unity, values for which he was known.
“Our founder of Lesotho was a peacemaker; we should honour him by ensuring that we walk in his footsteps. However, while he welcomed missionaries and the English language to promote peace, we must not lose our mother tongues in the process of accommodating foreign influences,” she said.
On behalf of the LAC Registrar, Mrs Boitumelo Mohlaka encouraged attendees to take pride in their cultural identity, including wearing traditional attire even outside the country.
She further highlighted the importance of preserving traditional performances such as mokhibo, mohobelo and litolobonya…
