LCE PRESENTS RECTOR, DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMME

MASERU — The Lesotho College of Education (LCE) has officially presented Dr. Solomon Chibaya as the new Rector succeeding Dr. Moeketsi Letele.

The Rector who resumed his duties on January 05, 2026 holds a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership, bringing experience in higher education leadership, research, governance, and policy across Southern Africa.

He is expected as according to Deputy Rector Administration, Ts’o Sechaba strengthen institutional governance, advancing research and innovation, enhancing teacher education quality, and positioning LCE as a key contributor to national and regional development amongst others.

Meanwhile, on behalf of LCE, Mrs. Bonang Makamane, Director Distance Education said the Open and Distance learning (ODL) programme is part of the institution’s efforts aimed at ensuring that education is accessible to all, regardless of location or personal commitment.

She explained that this comes after the Council on Higher Education (CHE) licenced the institution to offer degree programmes that saw the first batch graduating in 2025 (Bachelor of  Education in pre-school and foundation phase as well as primary).

Giving affirmations, the new Rector who gained his first degree via ODL promised to deliver to the best of his abilities, stating he is better positioned.

He added that offering degrees is a sign LCE is transitioning into becoming a university, saying the ODL programme is meant to offer technological advances so as to reach out to Basotho at any given time while also improve quality of educators.

This comes at the time when the college celebrated 30th graduation ceremony in 2025 coinciding with the institutions 50 years’ anniversary since existence.
