LDF TO ROTATE MOZAMBIQUE CONTINGENT

Maseru, July 26 — Following the extension of the time frame of military mission in Mozambique by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) will soon rotate its contingent in that country.

This was said by LDF Public Relations Officer Captain Sakeng Lekola in an interview with the Agency.

Capt. Lekola clarified that the timeframe was extended by SADC Heads of States to ensure that people are going back to their homes safely as things have got back to normal.

He therefore indicated that the third LDF company group or contingent will soon be deployed in Mozambique.

Meanwhile, the government paid 120 Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Contingent in April this year who were deployed in Mozambique on August 08, 2021.

It was reported that the government did not only reward the above-mentioned contingent in a form of cash but is continuing to provide them with counselling.

The payment follows the Prime Minister’s speech when awarding medals to the contingent in March this year, whereby he indicated that the government will reward and honour the contingent in a form of cash by May, emphasising that this gesture is not part of any reward from LDF or SADC.

So far three soldiers lost their lives during their deployment in Mozambique and one of them died after coming back home.

The contingent returned home on June 15 last year and another mission was sent to Mozambique.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a regional bloc that deployed a military mission in Mozambique to combat terrorism and violent extremism inthe northern Cabo Delgado province.
