Maseru, Jan.18 — Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) has set the record straight following confusion among members of the public that there is going to be power outage during the planned upcoming maintenance of the Phase I Water Transfer and Delivery Tunnels from Katse to ‘Muela by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA).
The maintenance which is set for a period of six (6) months, starting from October 01, 2024 to March 31, 2025 will result in the total shutdown of the water delivery system and no generation of electricity at the ‘Muela Hydropower Station.
Speaking in an interview, LEC Public Relations Manager Mr. Tsépang Ledia said that even though ‘Muela Hydropower Station will not be generating electricity, the public will still have electricity.
He said that currently they get electricity supply from ‘Muela, Eskom South Africa and EDM Mozambique saying therefore that when ‘Muela stops generating electricity that would mean less in their distribution but they will work with their existing service providers (Eskom and EDM) so that they meet demand. . .
