MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY NOT PROVIDED WITH CLEAN WATER – KHESA

Mafeteng, August 14 — The District Principal Technical Officer from Rural Water Supply, Mrs. Mathebe Khesa says it has been years without providing rural communities with clean water as a result of shortage of funds.

She was addressing attendees at the second day of Metsi a Lesotho WASH meeting held at Mafube Guest House on Wednesday where she said the majority of rural communities lack clean water and sanitation. Young people are graduating into adulthood, increasing the number of households in need of clean water.

Mrs. Khesa indicated even those who were provided with clean water those projects need to maintain and following the challenge of shortage of funds such communities had to travel long distances to fetch water from unprotected wells thus at risk of being attacked by diseases.

She said it is only this financial year whereby they are provided with funds to construct water projects in some of the listed villages even though not all of them will be provided with clean water.
