Maseru, Oct.16 — Expert and Community Advisor on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) and other large infrastructure development Mr. Lenka Thamaed says that with the abundant water Lesotho has, the country will be able to sell water per unit to other countries.
Mr. Thamae said this in an interview on Monday where he said that the water treaty between South Africa and Lesotho only talks about royalties the latter should get saying that according to the treaty, the royalties should have own fund instead of being put into the consolidated fund as it is the case now.
He said that Lesotho needs to sell water saying that can be achieved through projects like Lesotho / Botswana Transfer as well as Metsi Ke Bophelo adding that through these projects water can be sold per unit.
He said that since the water treaty is going to be reviewed soon, it is then that issues like selling water per unit could be included.
