Maseru, Nov. 08 — The Government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Defence, National Security and Environment has launched the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) which is aimed at responding to climate issues. The event was held in Maseru on Wednesday.
In her opening remarks, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Prime Ministers office Mrs. Mabataung Khalane said Lesotho as one of the least developed countries, continues be highly exposed to climate change hazards including floods, droughts, storms, strong winds, heavy snowfall, and severe frost.
Mrs. Khalane stated that these hazards occur frequently and negatively affect the population particularly those living in the rural areas. In addition, she said this impact results in loss in economic activities and loss of environmental integrity which eventually lead to destabilisation of the agricultural sector and raise the level of food insecurity for thousands of people who depend solely on farming for subsistence. . .
