LIFESAVING INTERVENTIONS NEEDED DURING DISASTERS – MOKONE

Thaba Tseka Sept. 30 — Intimate partnerships continue even when the country  is experiencing disasters hence the need to provide life saving interventions to reduce morbidity, mortality especially among women of reproductive age.

This was stated by the UNFPA Gender Officer during a three day workshop to deliberate on the interventions the Agency can provide as a humanitarian response to address the prevailing food insecurity situation.

According to Ms. Matseliso Mokone, it is important to maintain free flow of service delivery of family planning services even when disasters have been declared.

She said with the current situation in which the current situation has been declared as an emergency, women face situations where they have to choose between travelling long distances, family planning or having to purchase food.
