Maseru, Oct. 13 – Lakeside route came to a standstill on Friday morning as members of the Lesotho National League of Visually Impaired Persons (LNLVIP) commemorated international White Cane Safety day.

The commemoration, which commenced with a march from Setsoto Stadium to Mohloli oa Bophelo Rehabilitation Centre was intended to raise awareness and remind people about how the white cane is an important tool in helping the blind live with greater independence.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency, LNLVIP Secretary General Mrs. Mabataung Khetsi said the commemoration was also intended to create a platform for the League to celebrate its achievements, analyze challenges facing visually impaired persons and map the way forward.

She indicated that visually impaired persons now get job opportunities like other able-bodied people, children who were hidden in their homes because of blindness now have a voice and that children with visual impairment are now enrolled in schools and access education like other children.
