BEE DAY CELEBRATION GOES TO ROMA

Maseru — Lesotho will join the rest of the world in celebration of World Bee day on Friday next week in Roma. This is according to the information from the Ministry of Forestry and Environment.

This year’s theme, “Bee inspired by nature to nourish us all”, highlights the critical roles bees and other pollinators play in agri-food systems and the health of the planet’s ecosystems. Indeed, pollinators are increasingly threatened by habitat loss, unsustainable agricultural practices, climate change and pollution.

World Bee Day raises awareness of the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to a sustainable future.

Bees pollinate (a process vital to crops growing) three quarters (75%) of leading global crops, including oilseed rape, apples, soft fruits, beans and courgettes, as well as things like tomatoes and strawberries.

Bees are vital for maintaining the balance between living organisms such as human beings, plants and animals as well as their environment…
