LORA TO COMPENSATE FARMERS

Maseru, Nov. 27 —Lesotho Off Road Association (LORA) in partnership with community leaders, Chiefs and Counsellors will visit farmers whose crop fields were affected during the Roof of Africa rally in a bid to compensate them.

This, was said by the Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo in the National Assembly on Thursday when responding to the question of Thaba-Putsoa Member of Parliament Mr.  Lebohang Monaheng, regarding destruction rendered upon the crop fields of several Basotho farmers along the route marked out for the roof of Africa rally.

Mr. Maqelepo said the above, in the presence of affected farmers will go to the fields and study the intensity of damage and provide compensation thereafter.

He clarified that the route is usually marked along the fields not within villages to avoid accidents.

He also indicated that the soil erosion, which was alleged to have been caused by the motorcycles competing in the rally needs collaboration of both relevant stakeholders and villagers in order to address it, calling on the nation to focus on tourism revenue collected by the country not only the challenge since the rally takes place in the mountainous and terraneous parts of the country for the benefit of Basotho…
