MABOTE POLICING COMMITTEES SENSITISE YOUTH ABOUT CRIME

MASERU — With escalating statistics on youth who engage in criminal activities due to drug and substance abuse, Mabote Community Policing Committees (CPCs) are currently staging public gatherings in villages.

The Chairperson of Committees Mr. Habofanoe Letsie told the Agency in an interview that the objective is to warn youth of danger of engaging in criminal activities, plead with parents to reminand their children and unite in curbing drug and substance abuse amongst youth, as they are future leaders of Lesotho.

He said the continuing issue of liquor outlets, which fail to comply and trade beyond operating hours, remains a challenge as youth take advantage and engage in criminal activities immediately when they leave such outlets.

He mentioned housebreaking and cable theft as main criminal activities which youth engage in, saying public gatherings are held in collaboration with Lesotho Electricity Company to sensitise youth on the importance and danger of tampering with cables. . . .
