Maseru, Aug. 12 — Basotho Business Community is planning a fundraising event on August 29 for ‘Nete Leotlela who was attacked by German Shepherds dogs in July at Ha Abia in Maseru.
A famous local musician, Mr. Selimo Thabane said even though they are not aware how much has been raised so far, the fundraising must continue to cover the current medical costs and the after care.
He said it is important for the child’s mental health to be taken care of and to ensure that no scar reminds him of the ordeal, adding that this can only be achieved if he receives the best care that he possibly can.
Responding to how they plan to ensure that the money is used solely for the medical bills, Thabane said it will be deposited directly into the mother’s or the hospital account.
He added that Leotlela requires specialised medical treatment, facial reconstructive surgery, recovery support and related care following the serious injuries he sustained.
He said therefore the initiative has become a national humanitarian call aimed at mobilising financial support and bringing Basotho together in solidarity with the Leotlela family.
Last month, Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso launched the “Kick the Ball, Score a Goal for Life” campaign to support Leotlela medical and healing journey.
Community groups, local organizations like Basali ba Pitiki, and crowd funding efforts have raised hundreds of thousands to assist the family with mounting medical costs.
Leotlela was transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Medi Clinic hospital after multiple stabilizing surgeries.
He sustained severe injuries, including the loss of both ears and his lower lip, alongside extensive scalp and facial trauma.
Doctors continue monitoring his long-term recovery and upcoming reconstructive procedures.
