Maseru, May 07 — As part of commemoration of Africa Day, members of the public will embark on a cleaning campaign at Ha Mabote in Maseru on May 25.
Africa Day commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on May 25, 1963, when leaders of 32 African countries united to promote African solidarity, liberation and self-determination following colonial rule.
In a statement issued by One Map Africa (OMA) Lesotho Secretary General, Mantsane Makotoane, the organisation said the day remains significant to Africans across the continent and the diaspora as it symbolises unity, dignity and the continued struggle for African empowerment.
As part of the celebrations, OMA Lesotho said members and volunteers will honour departed loved ones by cleaning and maintaining the Metlakaseng cemetery.
The initiative is also aimed at promoting environmental responsibility, volunteerism, unity and community service while strengthening the organisation’s visibility among Basotho.
The organisation called on Basotho to attend in large numbers to celebrate Africa Day and uphold the spirit of African unity and service.
