Maseru, Dec. 04 — Panelists drawn from different sectors of the society deliberated on an overview of cyber security in Lesotho as well as a cyber crime bill to combat cyber crime.
This was during a high level meeting on cyber security in Maseru on Wednesday.
It came out during discussions that while other sectors of the society want the bill passed, the media representation and that of civil society are adamant credibility of this bill is questionable and would in future affect implementation of the law.
Those in media and civil society organisations feel that the bill is very important but seems to be more focused on certain criminal acts conducted in the cyber space, that is those relating to money to mention but a few and yet violating human rights aspects of the matter.
Issues of use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) were unpacked with each stakeholder having noticed and accepted the vitality of the matter despite challenges that come with the modern concept.
