Quthing, Oct. 30 — Representation of poultry farmers from various agricultural resource centres across Quthing district gathered at a one-day workshop focused on the dissemination of Lesotho’s Poultry Development Policy and Implementation Plan.
The event held in Upper Moyeni on Thursday was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.
The policy aims to reduce Lesotho’s heavy reliance on poultry imports, enhance national food security, and stimulate job creation by establishing a self-sufficient, commercially viable, and resilient poultry industry.
Speaking at the workshop, the Chief Animal Production Officer from the Ministry Mr. Petlane Molefe said the vision of the policy is to transform the currently underdeveloped and import-dependent poultry sector into a powerful and sustainable industry that contributes meaningfully to the country’s nutrition, food security, job creation and economic growth.
Mr. Molefe highlighted that key elements of the policy include; reducing import dependency by increasing domestic production of poultry meat and eggs, and boosting local capacity for both commercial and smallholder farmers to meet national demand…
