Maseru, Oct. 17 — In a colourful and lively celebration, 39 pre-schools in Maseru marked heritage day with a cultural march and traditional festivities aimed at preserving Lesotho’s rich heritage among young learners.
The event began with a march from the Ministry of Education headquarters to Central Park, where children proudly paraded in traditional Basotho attire and their teachers proudly waving the Lesotho flag and singing cultural songs along with the band.
Ms. Pulane Hlalele coordinator of Maseru pre-schools explained that the purpose of the event is to nurture cultural awareness and identity from an early age, by involving children in traditional activities such as dancing, singing, story-telling, understanding and appreciating their Basotho roots in a fun and memorable way.
Ms. Hlalele emphasised that culture is best preserved when passed on through generations and introducing it to children at an early age, strengthening both their sense of identity and pride.
