Qacha’s Nek, Oct. 10 — In a heartwarming yet challenging turn of events, the Department of National Identity and Civil Registration (NICR) has resumed its vital services after a frustrating pause, bringing a glimmer of hope to countless residents.
Since the resumption on September 30, Mr. Tumaki Mahao, Director of NICR, has witnessed an overwhelming influx of applicants around 150 each day.
This surge follows a period of uncertainty when operations stalled due to the departure of 58 temporary workers, left unpaid since June. “We’re doing our best, but with limited staff, it’s tough to keep up,” Mr. Mahao shared, his voice tinged with empathy.
“We know how much this affects the public. Many IDs have expired, and people are eager to renew or apply for the first time.”
