SEBETIA FARMERS URGED TO ALIGN THEIR PLANS WITH SEASONAL FORECAST

Berea, Nov. 19 — As climate change continues to threaten lives across the globe, the Lesotho Meteorological Services (LMS) has on Monday encouraged the Sebetia community to always align their agricultural plans with the projected seasonal forecast.

This emerged on Monday during the joint public gathering for Sebetia community hosted by the Berea District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) in partnership with the National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) with the aim to raise awareness about the climate change and the projected rains whereby the LMS forecast for the period of November 2024 to January 2025 showed that it is going to be dominated by above normal rainfall conditions.

Representing the LMS Climate Change Unit, Mr. Hlabaki Khalala said investing in agriculture recently has turned to be the most expensive exercise which requires people to align their plans with the projected seasonal weather forecast in order to be on the safe side.

Mr. Khalala said in most cases farmers embark on crop production with the hopes to gain a good harvest, but the majority fail to achieve that only because they rely on their own traditional practices, rather than modern technology and to their surprise they encounter adverse weather events which destroy their crops.
