SENATORS CHALLENGE AGRICULTURE STRATEGY AMID FARMER FRUSTRATIONS

Maseru, Sept. 25 — In a heated exchange in the Senate this morning, Dr. Thabiso Lebese raised serious concerns about Lesotho’s Intensive Crop Production strategy, saying it is falling short of expectations.

“Farmers are crying foul,” he said, pointing to ongoing shortages of seeds and fertilisers that have left many struggling to make ends meet.

Dr. Lebese’s remarks came in response to Agriculture Minister Thabo Mofosi’s statement earlier today, where the Minister admitted that this year’s harvest is unlikely to show any significant improvement.

“The budget allocation has not changed much,” Mofosi said, suggesting that the stagnation in funding is partly to blame.
