THOUSANDS IN BEREA BENEFIT FROM HIV SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Berea — The Bokamoso Project within Mothers to Mothers has been supporting 5,700 orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) and their families in Berea, helping them stay on HIV treatment, access early testing, and improve nutrition.

Berea district coordinator for Mothers to Mothers Ms Ntombizonke Letšela, said the project focuses on children living with HIV and their families, children living with people with HIV, pregnant and breastfeeding adolescents, and HIV-exposed infants.

“We work with the Department of Social Development to improve nutrition and teach families to grow their own food. We also give care packages to the most vulnerable households,” Ms Letšela said.

She added that there are 34 staff members deployed across eight Berea councils, including 30 case management workers, two community social workers, and two facility-based social workers.

Ms Letšela further elaborated that clinic-based social workers and case management staff who visit homes ensure children and parents take their medication and that infants are tested early.

The project operates in eight councils mainly Maseru Urban, Kanana, Senekane, Phuthiatsana, Teya-Teyaneng, Motanasela, Mapoteng, and Koeneng and it began in October 2024.
