Maseru, Nov 29 – At least three Basotho are among the 11 who died at the Impala Platinum Mine at the Bojanala Impala Platinum mine in Rustenburg, North West, following a lift accident that occurred on Monday morning.
This was confirmed by Director of Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mr. Japane Mlambo on Wednesday.
He said there are also another three Basotho who are recovering in hospital after being admitted following this fatal incident.
Mr. Mlambo told the Agency that the accident occurred when a total of 86 Bojanala Impala Platinum mine workers were going to the surface after completing their night shift and apparently the lift stopped halfway, leading to the workers suffocating since there was no ventilation inside. . .
