WASCO URGES WATER STORAE AHEAD OF RESERVIOR CLEANING

Maseru, April 15 — The Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) has warned the public of a temporary water interruption scheduled for Tuesday due to the cleaning of reservoirs at Mpilo, near Parliament, an exercise expected to affect several parts of Maseru.

In an interview with the Agency, WASCO Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bahlakoana Lehasa, said the cleaning of reservoirs is an annual routine aimed at maintaining water quality. He noted, however, that in cases of emergency where water quality is compromised, the company promptly informs the public and initiates immediate cleaning.

Mr. Lehasa explained that WASCO will carry out the cleaning on a rotational basis to avoid a complete shutdown of water supply. He indicated that when one reservoir is taken offline for approximately 18 hours for cleaning, water will be supplied from another reservoir to ensure continued service to most customers.

He further stated that the exercise will affect areas including Ha-Thetsane, Hoohlo, Ts’enola, Koalabata, Happy Villa, Katlehong, Old Europa and surrounding locations within Maseru.

Mr. Lehasa assured the public that the cleaning process will not compromise water safety. He emphasized that once the cleaning is completed and supply resumes, the water will be safe for drinking, cooking and other household uses.

He added that the temporary interruption is not expected to significantly disrupt residents, as it will not exceed two days, noting that each reservoir requires up to 18 hours to clean while supply continues from alternative sources.

WASCO conducts strict quality checks and will only restore full service after confirming that the water meets all required health standards.
