WATER CRISIS DRIVES ST. BOSCO PUPILS TO UNPROTECTED SOURCES

Berea, Nov. 20 — Limited access to drinking water is a major challenge driving 478 pupils of St. Bosco primary school in Liotloaneng, Berea district to unprotected water sources and thus affecting their learning process.

The Agency has learnt about the situation on Tuesday during the ongoing Berea District Disaster Management Team (DDMT) awareness campaigns aimed to educate them about climate change and to alert them about the predicted heavy rains.

In her remarks, St Bosco primary school Principal Mrs. Malefane said water is a basic need which one cannot live without, but their school is the most unfortunate one where pupils have no other option, but to risk their lives and access water at unprotected sources only to quench thirst.

She said they are already situated in a marginalized community lacking many essential services and lack of water has exacerbated their level of vulnerability.
