Berea, Feb. 16 — As part of mitigating the impact of climate change, Hope for Rural Women Assembly (HRWA) Berea in partnership with community members has on Sunday planted 1000 indigenous trees at Khoaba-le-bua, Teyateyaneng.
According to HRWA Berea Chairperson, Mrs. Mamoratuoa Nts’ekhe the campaign to plant indigenous trees (Mofifi and Cheche) is meant to restore the lost natural vegetation and also to mitigate the impact of climate change.
Mrs. Nts’ekhe highlighted that climate change has badly impacted their environment with adverse impacts such as land degradation, while on the other hand people are going through extreme poverty, moreover she said all such adverse events demand action for change.
She said the indigenous trees are capable of restoring bio-diversity as opposed to the exotic trees like eucalyptus whereby nothing survives where they are planted, adding that they dry up even the ground water, therefore through this initiative they are applying corrective measures and to fight air pollution.
